Salim Ibn Marzouk M x Brass Afire (Afire Bey V)

English Pleasure Prospect

Genetics: ee/Aa/Gg

Askari is a colt from our first foal crop and sired by our accomplished English Pleasure stallion, Salim Ibn Marouk M, who's already produced one Legion of Fame foal in his small foal crop, and out of our Afire Bey V daughter, Brass Afire. Askari is one of only two foals we bred by his sire and they prove how much he stamps his foal. Askari is almost a carbon copy of Salim in his personality. He is mellow as mellow could be and sometimes we jokingly call him our little old man because we regularly see him just lounging under a tree and watching the other foals play around. When training with him he gets a little more energized, especially when we introduce something new. He seems to really enjoy learning and working so we do our best to always keep it moving and keep him learning new things. When training him for his halter classes we learned that we almost have to "hype him up" using interesting sounds or visuals to get him interested. When he is really interested in something his head goes up, ears go forward, tail flags, and he starts to step a little bigger and faster. He never becomes flighty or difficult but he definitely becomes a little more showy and flashy. Askari is so easy to handle that after the first couple weeks of basic handling training and temperament testing he was given to one of Isabella's amateur ladies to handle and bring along. She had been looking for a young foal for the woman to bring along and when Askari proved to be the perfect fit for her. He is easy to handle and willing to work but also incredibly intelligent so his handler has a lot of fun working with him and training him. Askari is still incredibly young and has a long way to go before he goes under saddle and, though everyone is impatient to see if he keeps his easy personality, his handler is having fun learning along with him as she trains him to be a show horse. When his parent's were bred we were hoping for a mellow show horse with the potential to win at the top shows in the AHAC and that is exactly what we seem to have gotten. Askari inherited his sire's mellow personality and refinement but his dam's huge hip and pretty gaits which is exactly what we were hoping for when the two were bred. Though he is still incredibly young and we won't know exactly how he will fare in the ring for a little bit longer we are excited to see how he matures and where he goes in the future.
