Dante Weltino x Desteny-Rose (Don Romantic)

Competing in Introductory Dressage

Rose was purchased from Tessa of Southern Oak Equine as a horse for one of our riders to bring up the levels as well as a potential broodmare prospect for when she retires. Rose was purchased based on her build, pedigree, and already accomplished show record. James knew by her breeding that she was probably energetic but with a good head on her shoulders. When she arrived at RTS James was proven completely correct. Rose is a little hot and she seems to have unending energy but she's also completely people oriented and loves to work. She is a total love with people and other horses and in her pasture she happily sits in the middle of the pecking order and loves to play with the other young mares in the group. On the ground she can be a bit looky and dancy because she's excited and ready to go but she's not dangerous. Being so people oriented she loves any chance she has to be around people and will stand forever just being groomed and given attention. One thing she doesn't particularly enjoy is baths but she can typically be convinced to be calm with granola bars and lots of attention. She typically gets lunged first before riding just to get her mind on work and into the gear needed for whatever is being worked on. Once you're on her back though she is as focused as any experienced show horse and she's willing to at least try anything she's asked. Every time you ride she tries so incredibly hard, even if she doesn't fully understand what's being asked. Because Rose is so young and willing and intelligent her rider does everything he can to make sure she doesn't get burned out. To do this he makes sure they only spend one, maybe two days if they really need to school something, in the Dressage arena. The other five days of work are spent exploring trails, playing around with liberty work and tricks, and even training her to drive a bit. Rose and her rider both seem to really enjoy the variety and as long as it keeps them happy and willing we are happy. She isn't a beginner ride just due to her massive size and energy level but for Rose is an absolute blast to have at RTS and her rider completely adores her which is exactly what we wanted in a horse for him to bring up the levels but since we also bought her to be a potential future broodmare she needed the build, movement, and pedigree to back her up. Luckily Rose has all of that and so much more. She is a bit larger bodied than we typically go for to cross with our Arabians but with a larger bodied Polish stallion she should cross beautifully and give her bone and substance without any of the potential for a big horse on little legs or some mixture of odd bits. Rose may be a massive, big bodied, 17hh, mare but don't think that means she's out of wack or can't collect herself. Rose has the most stunning gaits and her powerful shoulders and hips give her the ability to really use herself and gather herself together to give three gorgeous gaits and the potential for all levels of extension, collection, and upper level movement. Her amazing potential and personality isn't surprising when you see her pedigree. Her sire, Dante Weltino, is an accomplished Grand Prix competitor who is known for producing talented foals with great minds and her dam is a daughter of the amazing Don Romantic. Rose has so much potential as both a competitor and a broodmare and we can't wait to see where she goes.
