Lady was purchased with the first group of Poodles when we were first building our kennel for them. We purchased her based on pedigree, looks, and personality description from her breeder and from the moment she arrived she has been everything we hoped she'd be. She is a very serious dog who enjoys being around people but won't go out of her way to search for attention from people and much prefers just laying gracefully on one of the many dog beds we have scattered around the houses and barn and letting people come to her. Along with her serious nature she has work ethic and drive for days so she is game for absolutely anything we ask be it retrieving game, training over a small course, or learning fun new tricks she is always willing to do it. Lady is a working dog through and through and watching her work is something to behold. She took to retrieving like a duck to water and her breeder had nothing but amazing things to say about her ability as a gun dog both on land and in the water. When we were first looking for Poodles we knew we wanted to focus on the amazing versatility of the Standard Poodle so intelligence and willingness were both of utmost importance when looking at temperament and Lady easily checks both those boxes. She is wildly intelligent and willing to work with her handler so we always do our best to change things up during training, give her brain puzzles when we aren't actively training, and also taking her out with us and the horses when we go out to explore to make sure she stays engaged and willing instead of bored and not wanting to work with her handler due to boredom or rough handling. Lady is not a sensitive dog but she also is not a dog that would take rough handling well so her handler has to be gentle and understanding while still willing to do small corrections when necessary. Temperament is definitely incredibly important when it comes to a working or sport dog because you want a dog that you actually enjoy working with and want to continue to develop but, especially for a dog you intend on breeding, their conformation, health, and pedigree are equally important. Luckily Lady checks all the boxes for conformation and pedigree and she is already mostly clear by parentage for genetic health concerns and of course she will get tested for any others at age two before breeding. Lady is slightly stockier than the current show Poodle trend but she is still an incredibly refined and elegant girl who can hold her own on the hunt field and still look beautiful and regal in the show ring. Her pedigree is chock full of gun dog talent as well as great conformation and temperament so it's really not surprising she is the way she is and though she is still young we can't wait to see how she matures and develops into her potential as both a sport and show dog as well as a potential breeding dog.
