Whiskey was purchased as one of the founding sires of our Poodle program and so far he has filled and exceeded every expectation we had for our founding sires. His personality is second to none both out in the field and at home. He is one of the sweetest and easiest dogs to be around and is often found sleeping on one of the many beds in either the barn office or the rider lounge when he's not working. As a working dog he is intensely focused and always ready to go. He loves to work and you can see it from the moment he figures out that he's going out to work. If he sees someone reach for his hunting or training collar and the whistle he starts to dance and prance and whine excitedly until the collar is put on him to go work or train. Once that collar's on though Whiskey is all business and he will work all day retrieving birds and other small game. Whiskey is one of the dogs we take with us when we know we'll be in some really rough terrain because we know he will not give up until the game is found and he's brought it back to his handler. He is one of those dogs that is amazing at thinking on his feet and working through any problems he's presented with, whether that be working through a particularly tough bit of bush to get to a bird or working through a new body awareness exercise we can always be sure that he will work his way through quickly and safely. Whiskey has one of the strongest off switches we have ever experienced with our dogs. When he's not working or training he is happily relaxing on one of the dozens of dog beds we have around the property. As long as there is at least one person in the room he is very likely to be curled up on one of the beds in that room. His favorite spots are the barn office and the rider's lounge because that's where people are most often. Whiskey is a fantastic dog to have both as a hunting partner and as a companion around the barn but that's not all it takes to be a potential breeding dog. A breeding dog needs to have good conformation, a strong pedigree, and clear health tests and lucky for us Whiskey has all three of those things. He has fantastic conformation that makes him look like he could work all week and stay sound and then win in the conformation ring on the weekend. He is slightly bigger boned than the typical conformation Poodles but he isn't clunky in any way, in fact he is pretty refined and his conformation lends itself to the beautiful, light, springy gaits that Poodles are known for. When you look at Whiskey's pedigree it's not surprising that he is such a talented retriever or that his conformation screams beautiful working dog due to both his sire and dam being accomplished in hunt, field, and gundog tests and his sire is the first and only Poodle to hold all three of the top Hunt Test titles. Whiskey has some pretty big paw prints to fill but with the way he's going we don't think he'll have any problems doing just that and becoming an integral part of our breeding program.
