Uschi was purchased from Tessa of Southern Oak Equine when James brought up the fact that a few more varied Warmblood mares would be beneficial. Most of the Warmblood herd is centered around Oldenburg, Hanoverian, and Dutch Warmblood horses but both Elizabeth and James have always been interested in the Trakehner breed so when the chance to bring a beautiful Trakehner mare came up during Tessa's sale they immediately jumped on it. When Uschi arrived they were expecting the typical Trakehner personality and that is exactly what they got. Uschi is not an easy mare on the ground or in the saddle. On the ground she doesn't just walk next to her handler, she prances and dances and side hops. She is wicked smart along with being hot and sensitive which all really comes to the surface once she's under saddle. She is one of those horses that needs to be convinced that what you're asking is what she should be doing and she also requires respect from her rider before she'll respect them. One thing Uschi does not handle well is rough handling and people who try to force respect from her without giving any in return. She only needs the slightest of cues to do something once she respects her rider and her insane intelligence means that she only needs to be taught something a few times before she gets it. A downside to her intelligence is that she gets very bored very fast and can act out a bit when bored. To keep her mind active and happy her rider only works her on things for competition two days out of her six day work week and the other four are spent exploring the trails, trying her hand at jumping, and working on liberty tricks and fun. Uschi absolutely loves the variety and, though she may not have the best form, she seems to really enjoy testing herself over the low fences. Uschi's favorite thing though seems to be the trails because she can really explore and use her brain to work through anything and everything she sees. She may be hot and sensitive but she is also incredibly brave and will throw herself at any new challenge happily. Though she definitely is not a horse for everyone and she can be incredibly challenging for anybody who hasn't worked with her before she will absolutely try her heart out for a rider she has respect for. By the time Uschi arrived at RTS she had been out of the ring for three years and the original plan was to keep her retired and add her to the broodmare string but after she arrived at RTS she showed everyone that she still had a ton of life and fire in her and the decision was made to bring her back into work and start competing again. When Uschi arrived she was pretty out of shape but you could still see that she was a drop dead gorgeous mare with a dancer like build and three absolutely gorgeous gaits. The only thing James isn't super fond of is her head but that is easy to fix, especially with access to stallions like Meliel M and Overtyn M. Uschi may not be our easiest mare to have around but she is talented, beautiful, and shows a lot of potential as a broodmare after her final year or two of competition is over.
